Many in our villages saw the loss of the Parish Magazine as a real blow to our community and that was voiced by all age groups. In addition, the magazine provided many local tradespeople with a platform from which to offer their services. I felt that all those years of volunteer work would go to waste if I didn’t put the experience I had gained into providing a community service.
So that is why, with the backing of my wife, Anne, I made the decision to create “The Magazine”, register the website, www.themagazine.org.uk, form a Company, and open a bank account, The BJ Magazine Limited.
However just to continue exactly as before would have spelled failure so we decided to produce a directory first, “Local Trades & Services Directory“, with four quarterly Community Update editions which would then keep everyone informed about our village life. In addition, this website would enable details to be posted and updates made on a regular basis as well as enabling our local traders to be easily found.
For any publication to be successful it needs the support of the community and I would ask that you talk about this to your neighbours and friends so that items of general interest happening now or in the past can be shared by all. That also includes photographs or information about clubs and groups that are active again or have just started up.
One final point – the montage used as our website header, is made up of local buildings and scenes drawn previously by Lynn Drake & Sally Cameron.
