FOREST ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture to Support Health & Wellbeing

Acupuncture is a form of healthcare that originated in China over two thousand years ago and remains widely practised throughout the world today. Although it has ancient roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, many people now seek acupuncture as a complementary approach alongside modern healthcare. As a practising acupuncturist based in Burton Joyce, I am often asked how acupuncture works and whether it may be beneficial for certain conditions.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points on the body. Traditionally, it is understood to support the body’s natural balance and encourage healthy functioning. From a modern scientific perspective, research suggests acupuncture may stimulate the nervous system, improve circulation and promote the release of the body’s own pain-relieving and regulatory chemicals.
People seek acupuncture for a variety of health issues and concerns. Common reasons include back, neck and joint pain, headaches and migraines, stress and anxiety, sleep disturbances, digestive problems and hormonal imbalances. Acupuncture considers the person as a whole, so treatments are tailored to each individual. This means more than one symptom at a time can be treated and people often find that they experience improved overall health from their treatments.
The first question I’m usually asked is “Will it hurt?”. The needles used in acupuncture are extremely fine, much smaller than those used for injections, and most people experience little or no discomfort. Many patients report feeling deeply relaxed during and after treatment.
Another common question is “How many sessions will I need?”. This will depend on the nature and duration of the symptoms presented. Some people notice improvement after just one or two weekly treatments, while long-standing issues typically require a longer course. Patients often want to maintain beneficial outcomes with top-up sessions every 1 or 2 months.
I relocated Forest Acupuncture to the heart of Burton Joyce in December last year to be nearer to my patients. I am a fully qualified and insured practitioner, licensed through Gedling Borough Council, and a member of The Acupuncture Society. I am committed to maintaining high professional standards and providing safe, compassionate care for my patients. I offer treatments to patients aged 12 and above. In addition to supporting a wide range of health conditions, I also offer facial cosmetic acupuncture – a natural approach to skincare – supporting healthy skin and overall wellbeing.
If you would like to find out more, please get in touch for an informal conversation. I am always happy to answer questions and discuss whether acupuncture may benefit you.
